Project Stargate was a US government program established in at Fort Meade in 1978 in partner ship with SRI International. The program investigated the potential applications of remote viewing in matters of national security. The program was small, including fewer than two dozen personnel, at a relatively modest total cost of approximately $20 million over nearly 20 years.

Project Stargate was terminated in 1995 following a CIA report that concluded that it did not produce useful intelligence.
